Thank you for
your interest in Kootenai County Search and Rescue. This letter is intended to
give you an idea of the time investment and some of the other requirements for
membership in KCSAR.
Applicants for Membership shall meet the following requirements:
A. Shall be on probation for a
period of at least ninety days, and shall complete the following:
B. Shall be at least eighteen years old.
C. Shall undergo a background check and fingerprints through the Kootenai County
Sheriff's Office.
D. Shall submit a current application form to KCSAR.
E. Shall be screened and interviewed by the Membership Committee and/or the
Executive Officers.

H. The Membership shall vote with a 2/3 majority vote of all Members present to
install an applicant as a Member when the probation time and requirements have
been completed.
I. A one time thirty ($30.00) dollar Membership fee shall be paid upon being
accepted as a new Member.
The background check can take several weeks to be processed by the Sheriff’s
Department and returned to KCSAR. The New Member Introductory Course has three
areas of basic training and information. During this period, you will be
evaluated on your skills and based upon that information you may be qualified as
a Base person or Basic Field person. This training may be completed during the
90-day probation or it may take longer depending on your skills and the
available training classes.
After becoming a member, one must meet with our attendance requirements:
An Active Member shall attend a minimum of 50% of the business meetings and 70%
of the regular training meetings or sessions per year.
Our current meeting/training dates and times are the 2nd Thursday of each month
at 1830hrs. There are also weekend trainings and most of these are not required;
however, KCSAR encourages its members to attend. KCSAR understands that we all
are volunteers, but skills are perishable and require work to maintain or
improve them. KCSAR works to ensure that when we receive the call for assistance
we are sending the qualified resources to the incident that our community
deserves.
If you are interested in joining please complete both forms below and bring them
to the next SAR meeting or if you have any questions please
Contact us.
Thank You.
